The View from the North was set up in 1998 by David Hall as an independent television production company specialising in history, travel and education, observational documentary and popular factual entertainment.

Since its establishment in 1998 to 2005 the company was commissioned every year by the BBC to produce prime-time industrial engineering and architectural history series with Fred Dibnah for BBC2. The programmes have always been in the BBC2/Channel 4/FIVE top ten and are frequently repeated. The View from the North also produced programmes for Channel 4, PBS, The Travel Channel and The History Channel.

More recently David has almost accidentally fallen into the role of established author. He always used to write the BBC books to accompany the TV series’ and due to their success went on to write Fred’s official biography. Away from Fred Dibnah, he’s also written ‘Manchester’s Finest’ – a semi autobiographical tale surrounding his memories of the 1958 Munich air disaster involving the Manchester United team. And his most recent book – published in June 2012 is called ‘Working Lives’ and tells the story of industrial Britain in the 1950’s and 60’s through the eyes of the workers of the day.

The View from the North Productions was established by myself Kathryn Hall in 2011, to sell the many Fred programmes that we have made over the years. Not only will I be selling the programmes as seen on TV but also an incredible catalogue of collections and exclusive DVD specials. I will also be offering a free Fred Dibnah gift with every purchase. These gifts are exclusive to The View from the North Productions and cannot be bought from anyone else.
